Here I am in Las Vegas and there’s a wine bar in the lobby of the hotel I’m staying at called the Hostile Grape, a strange name for a bar. I would have changed it to a Hospitable Grape but the name hasn,t dissuaded wine lovers from flocking to the place. It’s pretty cool-you can try any number of fine wines by paying a fee in self serve pouring stations. The wine is fresh and if there is a particular favorite, you can get a bigger portion by adding some more money. There is also a huge wine tasting tomorrow at Ballys. This morning there was a champagne tasting out on the strip at 10am. The city that never sleeps me included! Jack

We’re hosting a yard sale and donating profits from our sales of coffee on Sat. April3rd andSun.April 4th for the Harwood Project Graduation. In like a lamb...out like a lion?

I hope that all of you are enjoying the mild weather and all of this new snow. In like a lamb, out like a lion this March? We’ll see! A reminder that we are back to our 8am-6pm schedule every day. We’ll probably move to a 7pm schedule Monday through Saturday sometime in June. You can order sandwiches right up to 6pm- provided we still have bread. We were delighted with our first collaboration with the East Warren Community Market on Saturday February 20, 2010. We are hoping to have a spring beer tasting on Saturday March 27th with the East Warren Community Market, as well as a collective Easter scavenger hunt on April 3rd and 4th. Spend $75(on non-sale items) upstairs in the More Store and receive 2 FREE movie tickets to the Big Picture Theater. Come on in and check out the new spring arrivals. Later this month, we’ll be receiving David O’Rielly’s highly acclaimed Own Roe and Sineann wines. We’ll get his Murphy’s Law line of red, white and rosé. Great value for these outstanding blends but limited. We would love to save you a trip to Waitsfield- if you need basic grocery items (even just a tiny amount), we’ll do our best to accommodate you. From baking supplies to spices and produce, we can help with that missing ingredient. Just ask the deli or at the register. In Waitsfield people guess when the outhouse will plunge into the pond, around her it’s when the front vestibule comes down? Any Guess’?

What's going on at the Warren Store?

There are many new and exciting things happening at the Warren Store.

There are many new arrivals at the More Store- CP Shades, Sucre Soir, and new Comfy Designs- all of these are basic layering pieces and layering is key! The More Store would also like to thank John and Sandy Porter for the handrails into the women’s department. They are wonderful and much needed. On February 16, from 12-5 there is a trunk show with Brazilian leather artist Lily Stafford- it will include handmade leather accessories from purses to travel bags. Lori will be traveling in the next months for lots of shows!! Call her with any requests…

WOW!!!! What a deal...spend $75 on non-sale items from the More Store and receive two FREE movie tickets to the Big Picture.

On Wednesday February 17th and Wednesday February 24th, there is a Yoga and Wine event at SHARC (Sugarbush Health and Racquet Club). Yoga from 4-5 and then from 5:15 to 6:30 there is a wine and cheese tasting. Jack the "Wine Guy" will be there to speak to the wines after the class.

Don’t forget that pizza day is now two days a week- Wednesday and Saturday. Don't forget about our daily lunch specials including Mexican Thursday. You can check out our weekly deli specials on our website.

There are two tastings Valentine’s Day weekend - an Artisanal Beer tasting on Saturday February 13th from 1-5 and on February 14th from 1-5 a Hard Cider tasting, plus more!

Happy New Year

We hope that everyone had a wonderful New Year. January seems to be flying by!! We are hosting a cider tasting on Sunday February 14, 2010 from 1 to 5 pm. The cider comes from West County Cider in Colrain, Massachusetts. There will also be a sparkling rose from Austria and a “surprise” red wine. There is also an Artisanal Beer Tasting on Saturday February 13, from 1-5. Los Codos Malbec from Argentina is on sale from $9.99 to $7.99. There are two wonderful Bordeaux on sale as well, Chateau Grimard Bordeaux Rouge and Chateau la Grange De Grenet Bordueax. Both are regularly $10.95 a bottle and are now $8.99 a bottle.

Upstairs at the More Store there are some great deals- Save 40% on all men’s outerwear and ALL sweaters for men and women. Save 20% on all men’s clothing and all gloves for men and women. New items are arriving, including Sucre Soir and Lunasea (a Fair Trade product) silk reversible jackets.

A friendly reminder that Pizza is served on Saturdays as well as Wednesday. Last order will be taken at 4:45 or until we see out- whichever comes first! Breakfast is available until 11 Monday through Friday. Need help with dinner?? Call Jess in the deli- she can help!

Now Winter has Really Arrived

Well now winter has really arrived in Vermont- it has been snowing all day and continues to fall. We have the vestibule up and the wood stove crankin', so stop in and get some hot cider and a snack to keep you warm. To check out this lovely waether on our webcam. There are only 14 more days of shopping till Christmas, and the Warren Store is you 1 stop shopping for it all- with everything from our great Hostess Gift Bag- to wrapping paper to wines that will meet everyone's palate. Our Warren Store labeled wines left on the truck from California this morning so they should be here by Wednesday the 16th. We are having a champagne, sparkling wine and Warren Store labeled wine tasting on Saturday December 19th from 1-6. And for those that are late risers, starting January 1st, 2010 we will serve breakfast until 11am!! Keep warm and enjoy this winter wonderland.

Here at the Warren Store we consider the first day of winter to be the day that we start-up the wood stove and we fired it up on December 1^st… Now we just need the snow to come! Make sure to stop by the Warren Store on Saturday December 5^th to celebrate Country Christmas- We are having a wine tasting from 1-6pm plus samplings of pizza, Fat Toad caramel and cheese, FREE hot apple cider, Christmas cookies and 10% off all wines plus more! We also have many great wines that are on a deep discount- be sure get them while you can. ALL items upstairs in the More Store will be 20% off!! Be sure to get your preferred customer card while you are here. With this card, you will receive 10% off everything in the More Store all year! Now that most of the leaves have fallen off the trees, we are officially in stick season in Vermont. Starting November 1st, we will switch to our winter hours, which will be 8-6 daily. We will be open Thanksgiving Day from 8-1. You can order your Misty Knoll turkey here…just please do so by November 19 by 3pm. Turkey’s are $3.99/lb, starting at 12-14 pounds and goes upwards of 24 pounds. We also have a holiday menu – smoked trout dip in a bread bowl, mini crab tarts, venison pate, baked brie, meat, cheese and fruit platters, green bean casserole, local cranberry sauce, stuffed acorn squash plus more comfort food will complete your holiday dinner. Check our website for a complete menu. The bakery will also have the sweets available. For the month of November we are running a deli special- buy any sandwich and get another for 50% off! There will also be 20% off the following grocery items- Fat Toad caramel sauce, Candy Dish Condiments, and select Maple Syrup. On Wednesday November 25 there will be a wine tasting from 1-6. The wines will be what I recommend for the holidays…and ALL WINES will be 15% off that day. There are also some great sales upstairs at the More Store as we make room for new inventory. We had a busy Columbus Day weekend here in Warren VT. The snow has come and gone…the shortest winter on record!! Just a friendly reminder that our hours will change starting November 1, 2009. We will be open from 8-6 daily. Also, if you need some quick cash, stop in and use our new ATM…I know it is weird but we have been getting request for some time now. The response has been good when the damn thing has been working. Sevendays has a great write up this week on Après Ski eating, in which we are one the featured delis. We will be getting more Abbot’s Table in this Friday, supply is extremely limited. Also from Owen Roe’s The Sinister Hand will arrive on Friday. Come by the store and enjoy lunch on the deck before we fire up the woodstove.

Fall has Arrived...

Fall has arrived in the beautiful Mad River Valley. The leaves are changing and the nights are getting cooler. While you are out driving around looking at the beauty that Vermont offers in the fall, stop into the Warren Store between 1-5 pm for a wine tasting of the New Warren Store labeled wines. We have a Warren Store 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, a Warren Store 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, a Warren Store 2007 Chardonnay, and a Warren Store 2006 Zinfandel. We also have a limited quantity of Owen Roe Abbot’s Table. These wines are selling for $25 a bottle. Feel free to give the store a call to reserve your bottle 802.496.3864. The Deli at the Warren Store now has Green Mountain Smokehouse sausages, bacon and pepperoni, Ledge End venison in different cuts, Maple Wind Farm Pork, Misty Knoll Chicken and Boyden Farm Beef. While you’re at the Warren Store don’t forget to check out all the new winter gear upstairs. Fisherman of Ireland sweaters, gloves, hats, and Christopher Blue Jeans for fall and winter are in.

Another Rainy Day in Paradise

Another rainy day in paradise. The string of no rain on ther 4th of July was challenged last Sat when it rained just before and shortly after the parade. The block party dancers were undeterred as Jimmy Yozell's great band cranked out the music. All in all agreat day even with the raindrops. My apologies for the webcam being out of commission-we're working it. Lots of new stuff upstairs and down so come by and check it out. We continue to sell Castano monastrell and Estes from Spain in prodigious quantities although I think the staff is responsible for the lion's share. Seriously good red for less than $10. Our next wine tasting will be on Sat. July 25th. from 1-5.

Finally Some Sun

Finally what looks like a nice stretch of sun! A reminder that we'll be having a Spanish wine tasting this Sat.{June 27th] from 1-5 pm. Our Warren Store line of wines from California aren't ready yet but hopefully by mid-July we'll roll them out and have a party. I'll keep you posted. In the deli we now have the Fat Weston omelet. Fat Weston has been on the volunteer fire dept. here in Warren for 60 years. We thought it was time to honor this public servant and great guy by naming him in our deli menu of fame. Portion of profits go to a benefit of his choice which I believe will be a scholarship fund for someone attending firefighter's school. We now have Warren Store tie dye shirts for kids and adults{onesies for infants too!}.Lori says that we received funky new shirts and shorts for men from True Grit. We also have oil cloth table cloths, placemats, and aprons in fun retro prints. Come down and check out our extensive line of b-b-q and grill sauces.

Wine Tasting on Lake Champlain

Barbara and I had the pleasure of sailing around Lake Champlain on Tues and enjoying the fine wine portfolio of Vermont Wine Merchants. We couldn't have picked a better setting to sample some great summer wines which we'll be bringing in this week. From the toasy,buttery Moo Buzz chardonnay to the crisp and vibrant wines of Austrian winemaker Heide Schrock there's a style for everyone's palate.

Introducing Von Trapp cheeses!

We are very excited to be carrying Von Trapp cheeses in our deli. Jess and I spent a very informative and gracious afternoon with cheesemaker Sebastian Von Trapp and we came out blown away by his knowledge,passion, and flavor of these outstanding atrisanal cheeses. We hope to have the Von Trapp brothers down to the store this summer for a cheese tasting and hopefully get Sean to sample out his great beer as well! Join us on Sat. June 27th from 1-5 for a wine tasting of some of our new summer selections. The pitcher Inn will be hosting a Terry Theise dinner on Weds. July 1st. To me, Terry Theise epitomizes all that is good in German and Austrian wines and also French artisanal champagne{farmer fizz!]. Summer Store Hours

A reminder to all of our friends out there that our store hours for summer and fall changes on June 19th. Monday-Saturday 8am-7pm and Sunday 8am-6pm. The 4th of July is right around the corner and will be celebrated that Sat. The parade starts at 10am. Check out our new selection of wines that are arriving through the month. Some regular varietals but lots of new varietals as well. Can you say gruner veltliner, vernacchia, or macabeo?!
