Foliage Fun

“Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit still and watch the leaves turn.”
-Elizabeth Lawrence

This month’s “under our noses” selection is the entire state of Vermont! Our foliage season here is simply one of the most dazzling spectacles of the year. October is also a harbinger of harvests and upcoming holidays. The comfort (and calorie) season is upon us!

Here at the Warren Store we are shifting into fall mode with our famous chicken pot pies, apple pies from the bakery, maple cream pumpkin whoopie pies, and cider floats with maple or pumpkin ice cream. Stefan is keeping us well stocked with a variety of incredible artisanal cheeses. You’ll be seeing that deep dish pan of our mac and cheese almost daily on the deli counter! I’m told that our Vermont Farmhouse cheese infused with Sean Lawson’s Sip of Sunshine will be ready in a month’s time. Colleen has rolled out our fall/winter deli and catering menu for all of your upcoming holiday party needs. It’s never too early to start thinking about how we can help you! We love this time of year because everyone that comes into the store has the common bond of appreciation for the kaleidoscope of color going on outdoors and what we have going on indoors!

On Columbus Day Weekend we will  sample our Winter Hot Sauces and Fat Toad Caramel on Saturday October 8th from 12-4 while upstairs you’ll be able to sample some great local hard ciders from 1-5. On Sunday October 9th we have a Good Mix cereal sampling in the morning and a bee’s wax candle making demo upstairs from 12-4 pm.

We are so fortunate to have such a wide and eclectic range of local foods and condiments made by our friends and you’ll get to try them throughout the month of October. My personal favorite is Road House hot fudge sauce. The ice cream sundae is a classic and this fudge sauce brings it to another level!

“Autumn burned brightly, a running flame through the mountains, a torch flung to trees.”

Our friends at Seven Days will feature the Warren Store in their October 5th issue. They have been writing about different country stores throughout Vermont periodically and we thank them for bringing attention to these iconic businesses that are a crucial part of the fabric of their communities.

We will continue to be open from 7:45am until 7pm (Sunday 7:45-6) throughout October. Beginning November 1st we move to 7:45 until 6 everyday. Enjoy our last day of staying open late – Halloween! – with your family and friends in Warren Village!

Enjoy this special time. Spectacular quickly gives way to sticks, which have their own special beauty, but that season is a lot longer and there’s more time to enjoy it!
