“I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June”.
I too wonder what it would be like to live in a June with no rain, all sun, and the pollen count flat lined but life has a way of getting in the way. And that makes things interesting!
Throughout the month of June the long awaited Main Street project will be happening with a “positively, absolutely, no buts about it “completion by July 3rd. You can get here from there! We, along with the contractors, businesses, and the town of Warren, are going to make it a breeze for you to come into the village while the work is getting done. There will always be a lane open and the parking, well, will be like it’s always been! You’ll be able to monitor the progress of the project on the Warren Store Facebook page and webcam on our website (www.warrenstore.com). What’s summer without a little roadwork!
“June is the gateway to summer.” Jean Hersey
We love this time of year. The store is bustling, the deck is busy and the screen door is slamming like a metronome. It’s fun watching customers of all ages try to stay ahead of the melting process of their Kingdom Creamery ice cream cones as they hustle to the registers. Thanks to the generosity of long standing neighbor and friend Carl Lobel we are well supplied with rhubarb deep into June for our strawberry rhubarb pies. My personal favorite hands down.
Our Vermont artisanal beer collection continues to expand and seasonal brews are sprouting up everywhere. We are installing a new two door cooler exclusively for Lawson’s Finest so there will always be plenty on hand.
I’m very excited by the reception that Rosé wines have garnered these last few years. Rosé has a parallel popularity trajectory as local brews. These are wines that have the refreshing qualities of a white wine and the flavor profiles of a good summer red. Don’t rule out reds for the summer! I usually roll with rose and white wine but I tried the Sharpshooter Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley in Oregon and Sharecropper’s Red Blend from Washington state and these wines would compliment any kind of protein on the grill. You could even put a little chill on them! We are carrying the wines of Lincoln Peak Vineyards. This winery consistently impresses with their reds, whites, and rose. I highly recommend their Marquette and Limestone.
We’re delighted to welcome Horace Boylan and his Livity Food business to the Warren Store. Horace puts together delicious vegan meals to go and we’ll be featuring his meals, along with Vermont Sushi Factory, in our grab and go section.
We truly are a biking Mecca here in the Mad River Valley. Whether you single track up at Blueberry Lake or hit the roads there is no shortage of great biking routes. We’re delighted to be involved with 5 different cycling tours this summer. We decided it was about time to come up with a Warren Store cycling jersey. Made by Garneau, the premier cycling apparel company, our Warren Store jersey is fun, fashionable and very visible. We hope to have them ready by the 4th of July!
Beginning Friday June 16th the store hours will be 7:45am-7pm Monday through Saturday and 7:45am-6pm on Sunday. Yes we are open on the 4th of July (7:45am-5pm)!
Upstairs, we have some exciting new products and a new employee to introduce! Welcome Sherry Ober! She comes to us from EMS with excellent retail experience and customer service skills! We’re very happy to have her 5 days a week. For outdoor summer fun we have a hammock chair from Cobble Mountain in East Corinth, VT. This chair is handmade in Vermont, incredibly comfortable and can be drop shipped anywhere. Come try it out, you won’t ever want to get out of it! We also have solar powered hanging lanterns and string lights made of Mylar so they can stay outside. Great for summer parties. We’ve rolled out a new service: baskets and tote bags filled with essentials for wedding guests, corporate occasions and more! These baskets can be customized with treats, water, first aid and sewing kits. Welcome your guests with useful items to help make their visit easy and memorable. We have new, short sleeve Warren Store tee shirts in heathered shades of purple for the ladies and forest green for the guys. And, as always, fabulous clothes for men and women, whether casual and comfortable for everyday wear or event clothing for dressing up, we’ve got you covered! New jewelry and lighting in the case begs a visit as well.
June is always a special month. Our summer friends return. Music festivals, brewfests, kayaking and riding up at Blueberry Lake, the Wednesday Roundups, Saturday farmer’s markets, and cookouts. Graduations and the college kids coming back. Gardening! It’s a rich and fertile time. And it’s an urgent time too. Put as much fun as you can into your day-summer solstice is June 21st. This month’s “right under your nose” recommendation is right where you are now. When you’re in the Mad River Valley in June its great everywhere!
“Hot fun in the summertime!”
To the best customers in the world,
