October Color

“My favorite color is October.”      Unknown

Yes, it is as simple and as glorious as that -when all roads lead to Vermont for nature’s own Cirque de Soleil like extravaganza. Autumn in Vermont inspires all of us during this blazing season. From Birkenstock’s to boots, from picking berries to picking apples, from swim suits to sweatshirts, a warm inner comfort on a crisp and Crayola fall day is truly a wonderful slice of life.

October is a very special time at the store. We celebrate with autumn inspired sweets from our bakery like maple whoopie pies, apple pies, cheesecake, and apple muffins. This year was a banner year for the apple orchards and we’re taking full advantage of their bounty!

To celebrate the local harvest we will be tasting our local hard cider from Silo and Tin Roof. Check out our events page on our website(www.warrenstore.com).

October marks the return of Colleen’s incredibly popular chicken pot pies! People have been clamoring all summer for our pot pies so the wait is over. Suzanne is ramping up her selection of hearty grab and go dinners as well.

Our friends at Tonewood Maple Syrup and Runamok have supplied us with some incredible maple syrup and maple products. Some people like their maple syrup straight and Runamok likes to infuse their syrup with cinnamon or apple brandy, rum, or whiskey barreled cured. Enjoy Vermont’s iconic liquid gold in all it’s  manifestations!

Our friends at Lincoln Peak and Shelburne Vineyards are celebrating with the release of Marquette and La Crescent wines. These wines are perfect for cool crisp days and heartier fare. These varietals aren’t household names like Cabernet and Chardonnay but here in Vermont we do things different and we do things well and these wines can hold their own with their warm climate counterparts. Either of these wines and Colleen’s chicken pot pie is a truly memorable collaboration!

Two events that we can count on in October is that the bear arrives at our compost and dumpster out back for his “all you can eat buffet”and the Warren Elementary School hosts the Trick or Trot fun run/walk. This year the event will be on Sunday October 27th at 1:00. Come into the village in early and enjoy free hot cider and treats and a fabulous clothing sale upstairs. Remember that clothing can make a  statement but costumes tell a story! We’ll be giving a prize for the best costume who takes part in the tour of the village! Dress up!

Join us a few days later on Thursday October 31st for Halloween in the village. Costume ingenuity and pure kid cuteness collide for one of my favorite days at the store. It’s not to be missed.

This month’s “under our noses” shout out is to all of the country stores here in Vermont. Stop by in your travels to these little iconic gems that are the social hubs of their community. All roads lead to Vermont this month and all roads in Vermont lead to country stores. We love having you stop in!
