Spectacular June

“It was June and the world smelled of roses. The sunshine powdered gold over the grassy hillsides.”

Maud Hart Lovelace

Flowery prose perhaps but I have to say that after this spring, June arrived in spectacular fashion.   There is no better time in the valley than in June.  Umbrellas going up.  Lawns being mowed.  All of our landscaping friends having lunch on our deck.  People jumping in the river.  Everyone and everything is electric!

Memorial Day Weekend was our dress rehearsal but now the big show commences.  We’re ready!  The bakery is cranking out my favorite strawberry rhubarb pies (the ultimate breakfast!).   The deli is beginning to scoop out Kingdom Creamery ice cream.  Salted caramel is leading the popularity pack so far this season!  Our beerista, Phil, is ordering way too much great beer that we’re getting into overlap mode on our shelves.  I’m doing the same with ordering rose wines.  How can you have only 12 choices – there’s  too much great pink juice out there not to carry!  Our deck is ready to go and we will be having a new pedestrian sitting area by the bridge as well – complete with chairs and a bike rack.

On June 15th our store hours will be 7:45-7 Monday through Saturday and 7:45-6 on Sunday.  Too hot to cook? Our deli will be making sandwiches and salads right to the end of the day.  Colleen will always have some great grab and go meals on hand as well.

Every year we try to change things up with our Warren Store t-shirts.  Last year’s model will be coming back but we also have a new design that really pops!  And, we decided to put our logo on our tote bags as well.  The perfect bag to fill up with your entire picnic needs!

Upstairs we are ready for a busy summer!  Bright, colorful tabletop items from Karma Living will make your summer dining beautiful and fun.  There are runners, aprons, pillows, table toppers, martini shakers, votive holders and watering cans in enchanting designs!  Our men’s clothing department is brimming with shirts, shorts, swim trunks and pants from Kuhl, Royal Robbins, Toad & Co., True Grit and, new for us this season, United By Blue, a company that cleans plastic from the ocean with every item you purchase!  Insect Shield is an important category this summer.  Think Father’s Day, June 17th.  We have Dopp kits and hats and belts, wallets, watches and clocks and free gift wrapping!  Our ladies’ department is bursting with color and clothing for every summer event!  Active wear, athleisure wear, wedding guest attire, shorts, skorts, jeans, tees, tanks, you name it, we’ve got it!  Best one stop shopping in Vermont!

Beginning on June 2nd, our good friends across the street at the Pitcher Inn will start serving brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10-1.  Stop by the store and the Pitcher Inn before or after the farmer’s market!

We have lots of in store tastings and event s scheduled during these next few months so check out our events page on our website(www.warrenstore.com).  We’re delighted to provide catering for various organizations in the valley. We’re catering  the Rotary Father’s Day weekend golf tournament and we’ll be co- hosting the Mad River Chamber Mixer with the Soaring Center. Many of you know that area in the winter when it’s Ole’s Cross Country Center but in the summer it transforms into a little Fischer Price airport! The views are spectacular.  You can look north to Mount Mansfield and south toward Killington. There are some great people there that would be happy to give you a bird’s eye view of the valley.  It’s also a great place to have lunch, bring the kids up to see the planes tow the gliders and give them some running room!  The Mad River Soaring Center is this month’s” right under our noses” pick for June!

“June is the gateway to summer.”
