Warren Store Wine, Food & Fashion

“And what is so rare as a day in June? Then, if ever, come perfect days.” – James Russell Lowell

Wine&Fashion

These wonderful long days- getting up with the birds and then gardening until 9pm! My very favorite time of the year is when you can cram a lifetime into a single day! Summer is here my friends and I encourage all of you to take advantage of this traditional month of celebration and rite of passage. Graduations, weddings and suddenly more fun events going on than you can keep up with. It’s sure fun trying though!

On Friday, June 19th, we start our summer hour and stay open until 7 pm Monday through Saturday (6 on Sunday). School is out and vacations and summer socializing begin in earnest. We’re ready!

The deli and bakery have prepared new summer catering menus that will surely take the stress out of all of your entertaining plans. More local produce and local meats are coming in for your barbecues and parties. And then there’s dessert: strawberry rhubarb pie from the bakery and our new seasonal ice cream flavor from Kingdom Creamery – maple ginger snap.

I can’t say enough about rose wines. They are so versatile and compatible with summer dining and so refreshing by themselves. We have the biggest and best selection ever. And again pink doesn’t mean sweet! Thanks to Phil, our beer selection keeps getting bigger and better. We are very fortunate to have the inside track on many new Vermont breweries and we are extremely happy and grateful to carry Sean Lawson’s world class brews.

We will be collaborating with our friends at Phantom Restaurant on Thursday, June 25th, for a night of Wine and Fashion at Phantom! We will be taking our wine tasting on the road and will pair up wines with Matt’s fine food and have a runway show featuring many of our new summer clothing lines. Check out our website for details.

This month we will have our own Warren Store dark chocolate bar, a new selection of Fabricour Warren Store wines, and cool new Warren Store t- shirts for kids of all ages. This roll out of our new lines will be happen in conjunction with our new and improved Warren Store website going live on Tuesday, June 9th. Events, menus, specials, sales, webcam– it will be there at your fingertips!

Upstairs, we are ready for the summer season with beautiful melamine dishes and glassware from Le Cadeaux and vinyl printed tablecloths to make your outdoor entertaining easy, fun and elegant. New jewelry and accessory lines will brighten up your summer wardrobe.  And speaking of summer wardrobes! Refresh yours with adorable dresses from Mata Traders, light and floaty burnouts and crisp linens from Chalet, dresses from Cubism and Toad & CO (formerly Horny Toad). For men, we have shorts, tees and sport shirts by True Grit, Kuhl, MINE Apparel, Toad & Co and Tori Richards and adorable baby clothes from Vermont’s own Zutano. Hope to see you Upstairs soon and often!

Empathy is the starting point for a creating a community and taking action. It’s the impetus for creating change.” –  Max Carver

There will be many events coming up this summer and some of the bigger iconic events like the 4th of July, Mad River Music Festival, Festival of the Arts and Tweed Music Festival are going through new organizing groups or new locations. These events need the community’s support. Over the years we have lost our share of events but a lot of our friends and neighbors are working very hard to make things happen in The Valley.

I encourage all of you to support our friends who have businesses on Bridge Street. They are a resilient lot – hurricanes, floods and now, construction. They will get through this but they need our support. Troy Kingsbury from the Village Grocery offered to let workers and customers park behind his business. Troy epitomizes what we are about in this Valley and there are many others out there doing the good work that personifies our community.

On a personal note, last Memorial Day weekend marked 35 years being at the Warren Store. Like they say: “what a long strange trip it’s been!” But, what a gratifying one. It was a pleasant irony last weekend that two families, the Lanes and the Rowleys, happened to be in the store. Their patronage to the Warren Store predates me! And now they’re bringing their grand-kids and extended families. Old friends and new friends.  A wonderful and wacky staff! That’s what’s kept me here for so long and it truly has been a gift. Thank you! We will all keep on keepin’ on together.

Jack
